Question 1

Is Muay Thai training mandatory for the DTV Soft Power pathway?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The DTV is not a visa of convenience. You are required to attend classes. Immigration officers have the right to check attendance records or ask basic questions about Muay Thai during border crossings or visits. You do not need to be a competitive fighter, but genuine participation is expected.

Question 2

Can I work remotely on a Muay Thai DTV?

Accepted Answer

Remote work for foreign clients, not Thai employers, is generally understood to be permitted under the DTV framework. Your application basis is Muay Thai training, not employment. The DTV was designed with internationally mobile workers in mind. Clarity from Thai authorities on this point continues to evolve, and we advise staying informed.

Question 3

How do I extend my stay beyond 180 days within a single entry?

Accepted Answer

Two options are available. First, attend Hua Hin Immigration Office and pay 1,900 THB for a 180-day extension, permitted once per entry. Second, leave Thailand and re-enter, which resets your permitted stay to a fresh 180 days. Border runs to Malaysia or Laos are common and cost-effective. Both options can be used indefinitely within the five-year visa validity.

Question 4

What is the minimum age for the DTV?

Accepted Answer

The primary applicant must be at least 20 years old. There is no maximum age. This makes the DTV an excellent route for active individuals under 50 who do not yet qualify for the Retirement Visa.

Question 5

Can I include my spouse and children in my DTV application?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A legal spouse and dependent children under the age of 20 can receive their own DTV visas linked to your application. They do not need to enrol in Muay Thai training independently. The 500,000 THB financial requirement applies to the main applicant only.

Question 6

What financial proof is required for the DTV?

Accepted Answer

You must demonstrate liquid assets of at least 500,000 THB equivalent in any currency, held in a bank account in your name. The account can be in your home country, a foreign country, or Thailand. Cryptocurrency portfolios are not accepted. A dated bank statement is the standard evidence.

Question 7

Can I open a Thai bank account on a DTV?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The DTV is classified as a long-term visa, which satisfies the primary requirement for opening a savings account at most major Thai banks, including Bangkok Bank, Kasikornbank, and SCB. We can assist with the paperwork at our partner branches in Hua Hin.

Question 8

Do I become a tax resident on a DTV?

Accepted Answer

If you reside in Thailand for 180 days or more in a calendar year, you are considered a tax resident. Thailand's rules on foreign income remitted into the country have been subject to change in recent years. We recommend consulting a licensed tax advisor to structure your finances appropriately.

Question 9

Can I switch from a DTV to a Business Visa and Work Permit?

Accepted Answer

Not inside Thailand. The DTV cannot be converted to a Non-Immigrant B visa from within the country. If you secure employment with a Thai company, you would need to cancel your DTV, leave Thailand, and apply for a Non-B visa at a Thai embassy abroad.

Question 10

What documents do I need from the Muay Thai gym?

Accepted Answer

A complete application package from the gym requires: a Letter of Acceptance or Confirmation; the gym's Business Registration documents; Sports Authority of Thailand certification; and a course syllabus or training schedule. We ensure our partner gym provides a complete, embassy-ready package.

Question 11

Why should I use an agent for the DTV application?

Accepted Answer

The DTV is applied for as an e-visa through a Thai embassy portal. Rejection rates for formatting errors, incorrect file types, unclear bank statements, or missing gym credentials are higher than most people expect. The embassy does not refund the visa fee on rejection. We review every document before submission.

Question 12

Do I need to show proof of funds at every entry?

Accepted Answer

Immigration officers have the right to request proof of 500,000 THB equivalent funds on entry, though this is not routine. We advise keeping a digital copy of your most recent bank statement accessible on your phone when entering Thailand.
